Ritual medicine and Ethnospirituality are the sacred and symbolic aspects of traditional healing, in which physical, emotional, and spiritual health are addressed as closely interlinked. These healing systems acknowledge that health is not just a physiological condition but also a spiritual, social, and ecological equilibrium based on community, ancestral tradition, and harmony with nature. In this session at the Traditional Medicine and Ethnomedicine World Conference TMEWC 2026, the presentation will investigate how ritual medicine and spiritual healing traditions work toward holistic wellness, cultural resilience, and mental-spiritual health. It will emphasize cross-cultural case studies, ethical interaction with indigenous spiritual traditions, and the importance of preserving sacred knowledge and ritual practice in contemporary healthcare and international research.
Following this line of logic, the lecture will investigate the consequences of Ritual medicine concerning neuropsychological diseases and stress management using psychophysiological mechanisms. Recent developments in the field of Psychoneuroimmunology will be presented to examine the potential consequences of group ritual performances, meditative practices, and other rituals for the immune system, emotional regulation, and psychological well-being. Furthermore, the possible outcomes of altering one’s mindset using ritual customs will be addressed.
Another area that will receive special attention in the lecture includes the ceremonial use of plants for therapeutic purposes, ritual dancing for healing, and symbolic diagnoses within the ethnopsychic paradigm. It is essential to adhere to proper context when practicing these techniques and engaging in ethnographically accurate studies.
